Obituary

Grace Catherine Weite

September 11, 1995 ~ May 27, 2022

On Friday May 27, 2022, Grace Catherine Weite passed away surrounded by family and friends in Ormond Beach.

A true Floridian, Grace was born on September 11, 1995 at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach to James Edward Weite , Jr. and Catherine Coffield Weite . She earned a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Elementary Education from Stetson University in DeLand, where she was a member of the Varsity Women's Rowing Team, Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, and a Student Government Association Senator.

Grace had an aptitude and penchant for teaching; she also loved children, and combined these two passions in her work. She began her teaching career at Champion Elementary School in Daytona Beach, where she taught 4th grade. Then, she taught 2nd grade at Holly Hill School. Grace was also a summer camp counselor at Oceanside Country Club, babysitter, tutor, mentor, and friend.

She was known for her quick wit, infectious smile, and kind and compassionate spirit. In many situations, Grace was known as the "designated adult"; she was wise beyond her years. Her selflessness was very much admired not only by friends and family, but also students. Grace touched the hearts of many, was loved by all with whom she crossed paths, and her fingerprints will not fade from the lives that she touched.

Grace is survived by her parents: Cathy and Jim Weite ; sister: Carmen Weite (and dog, Cash, who loved Grace so much); grandparents: Ramona Vila Coffield, Thomas Wayne Coffield, Elizabeth "Betty" Mosley Weite , and James Edward Weite Sr.; aunts and uncles: John (Michelee) Coffield, Wayne (Mark) Coffield, and Debbie Weite (Gary Sr.) Hyde; cousins: Dalton Coffield, Kyle Coffield, Gary Hyde Jr., Gavin Hyde, and Gregory Hyde.

A funeral mass will be held at Basilica of St. Paul Catholic Church (317 Mullally Street, Daytona Beach, FL 32114) on Wednesday June 1, 2022 at 11:00 AM, followed by burial at Volusia Memorial Park (550 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, FL 32174).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Grace's honor to: Basilica School of St. Paul, AdventHealth Daytona Beach Foundation, and Prince of Peace Parish Food Pantry.
