Obituary

Gladys Poole 103 of Daytona Beach passed away June 18 2009 at Indigo Manor. A visitation is scheduled for Monday June 22nd from 6-8 pm and a funeral service will be held Tuesday June 23rd at 10:00 am at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona.

Gladys was born in Point Pleasant NJ to Howard and Therza Sherman. In 1910 five-year-old Gladys came to Florida with her parents arriving at Astor on a sternwheeler boat from Jacksonville. After two years in Astor the family moved to Daytona Beach where Gladys lived continuously until her death. She worked at the law firm of Green and Scholtz during the land boom days in the 1920's and married Charles Poole in 1925. They were married for 70 years. She was an active member of the former First United Methodist Church for over 60 years.
Gladys and Charles had two sons: Howard (deceased) and Arthur (Bunny Jo) Poole of Daytona Beach. Other survivors include grandchildren: Cheryl Bill Celeste and Stephanie and seven great-grandchildren.

Gladys wrote this poem in April of 2003:

I do not know
I cannot see
How the afterlife
Will be.
But this one thing
I know
And it brings me
great peace
God's wonders never cease.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Indigo Manor and Hospice of Volusia/Flagler for the love and care they provided Gladys during the final years and days of her life. Donations to Hospice (3800 Woodbriar Trail Port Orange FL 32119) or the charity of your choice in Gladys' name are welcome in lieu of flowers.
