Gisela Elisabeth Runte (nee Birsner) was born on Sept. 7, 1940 in Lake Konstanz, Germany, and passed peacefully on March 27, 2015.

She came to New York City when she immigrated to the United States in 1959, and became an American citizen in 1964. Gisela was a graduate of Bayside High School and the owner and operator of Gisi's Beauty Salon, both of Flushing, New York.

Gisela moved to Daytona Beach with her family in 1979. She eventually retired here and always claimed "this is paradise" in reference to living in Daytona. She was a member and editor of the American German Club. She loved spending her free time with family and all her grandchildren. Her hobbies included the accordion and piano. Known as "Oma," she always had a positive outlook on life.

She is survived by her husband, Erhard R. Runte of Daytona Beach; a son, Oliver W. Runte of Jacksonville; a daughter, Diana C. Cotto of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her sister, Inge Frei of Konstanz.
