Obituary

Gilbert Webb "Monk" Noell, 85, born April 3, 1929 in Daytona Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on March 2, 2015. Monk spent most of his childhood in Summerhaven and Daytona Beach and graduated from Seabreeze High School where he excelled in football and basketball. He was a Daytona Beach lifeguard and attended Stetson University in DeLand, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. In the Army he served in the Korean War. He worked as an accountant for Lockheed Martin in Atlanta, managed The Atlanta Athletic Club and Yohannan's Restaurant in Lenox Square and managed the Rodeway Inn in Pensacola. He owned several restaurants in Atlanta, The Bonnie Brooks Farm, Noell's, Stephano's and later managed restaurants after moving back to Daytona Beach, the Pump House East, the Hilton and Monk's. He owned the famous Landmark, Billy's Tap Room and Grill for 23 years and for two of those years Billy's at the Skyline in New Smyrna Beach. Monk loved Ormond Beach. He was a member of the Historical Society, and a parishioner at St. James Episcopal Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Jackie Tate Noell, son, John Patrick Noell, daughter, Nancy Noell Mohler, son, John Bruce Noell, daughters Barbara Noell Bartek and Cynthia Ann Noell , step-sons, Lewis Tate McCoy, David Richards McCoy, step-daughter, Leslie McCoy Gilbert, and his brother Don Noell, 19 grandchildren , and six great-grandchilden. Monk was preceded in death by his daughter, Dianne Noell Willman. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6th from 5:00-7:00 pm at Lohman Funeral Home, 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach. Funeral Services will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7th at 1:00 p.m.at St. James Episcopal Church, 44 S. Halifax Dr. Ormond Beach.
