A memorial service will be held at Lohman Funeral Home-Ormond 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach on Tuesday March 1st at 4:00 pm for Gilbert J. Christman 89 who passed away peacefully on February 26 2011 after a brief illness. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. "Gil" was born in Dayton Ohio on April 5 1921. He was raised in Rye NY and moved his family to Fairfield Ct. before retiring to Ormond Beach Fl in 1978. He was a Tool and Die maker by trade and worked for many years in the aircraft industry where he had a vast knowledge of all that pertained to it. Gil will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years Joan his loving children; two daughters Susann Basta and her children Bill Hennessey Daniel and Rebekah Basta and Lynn Rossmeyer and her husband Will Rossmeyer and their children Anthony and Gannon by his two sons Gilbert J. Christman Jr and his wife Liz and Eugene Christman and his wife Ellen and their children Andrew Emma and Matthew. Gil enjoyed spending time with his family and loved meeting new people. Throughout his life he helped anyone in need. He will be remembered fondly by his neighbors and friends for his love of dogs never letting one pass without a pet. Gil was strong-willed and full of life living it to the fullest making the most of each day working on his numerous hobbies and interests. He was an avid gardener fisherman tinkerer and woodworker. Many friends have been gifted with is specialty a handcrafted birdhouse. The patriarch of a large and adoring family he dedicated his life to them. We love you Pop and will cherish your memory.
