Gertrude "Trudy" Ellen (Johnson) York 93 of Port Orange passed into the presence of the Lord on October 27 2012 at the Port Orange Nursing and Rehab facility. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 P.M. in the Chapel of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona on Tuesday November 6 2012. Burial services will immeditly follow at Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery. She was born in Greenfield Massachusetts to the late Sigford and Anna Johnson on August 6 1919. She attended Greenfield High School and Northampton Commercial College in Massachusetts. Trudy was married in 1940 to Bernard Forest York. She was a very kind thoughtful and generous woman. Trudy was constantly doing nice things for others. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking for neighbors friends and family. She also loved to crochet and made lots of doilies for family friends and nursing staff at The Good Samaritan Nursing Home where her husband was for several years before his passing. Trudy was a very active and devoted member of the Greenfield Alliance Church for over 40 years. She always helped when asked often teaching Sunday school singing in the choir and participating in shut-in's at the church. In 1987 she and her husband moved to Port Orange. Bernard and Trudy both were very active in the Daytona Beach Alliance Church and Grace Community Church in New Smyrna Beach. Her beloved husband of 59 years Bernard York passed away in June of 2000. She is also preceded in death by her siblings Walter Johnson Harold Johnson and Elsa Clifford.
She leaves behind a daughter Karol Elmer (Husband George) of Port Orange; son Bernard Douglas York (Wife Shirley) of Sandwich Massachusetts; grandchildren Brian Elmer Shelia Hunter Deborah Anyiam Bonnie Pait Carrie Pantazelos and Eric York; great grandchildren. Phillip Elmer Nathan Elmer Jacob Elmer Kyle Elmer Kaylee Hunter Abigail Anyiam Bethany Pait Jonathan Pait Josiah Pait Timothy Pait Maia Pantazelos Peter Pantazelos; great- great granddaughter Mckenna Grace Elmer; siblings Signe Sund of Massachusetts and Robert Johnson of Connecticut. Trudy will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved her.
