Gertrude Florence Smith Witzig, 95, of New Smyrna Beach, Fl., formally of Wantaugh L.I.,New York, passed away on October 8, 2019 surrounded by family. Gertrude was born on August 30, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York to Charles and Edith (Pratt) Smith. She married Robert LaCount Witzig in New Hyde Park, L.I., New York on May 5, 1947, who proceed her in death in February 2009. She is also preceded in death by brothers Ted and Albert and sisters Edith and Dorothy. She is survived by one brother, Charles (Maria) Smith Jr. and one sister, Marion (David) Solona, her children Richard (Geraldine) Witzig and daughter Wendy Langley, four grandchildren, Geoffrey Langley, Lauren (Paul) Cramer, Mary (Jason) Pratt, Matthew (Ryan) Witzig and six great-grandchildren, Caden, Cole, Michael Tripp, Cadence, Caleb, and Laurel. Also survived by her nieces and nephews, Linda Smith, Lorraine Agostino, Ginny Quinn, Debbie Bennett, Cindy Haber, Glen Smith, Greg Smith, and Doug Smith, extended family and friends. She was always loving, compassionate and a great inspiration to everyone who met her. She will be deeply missed. Graveside service will be held at the Edgewater Cemetery, 700 S. Ridgewood Ave. on Saturday October 12th at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of Volusia County or the American Heart Association.
