Gertrude Elizabeth Sawyer (Trudy), 89, of Palm Coast, FL, passed away quietly on May 7, 2014 with her family by her side. She was born Gertrude Elizabeth Watson and lived in Laurel Springs, NJ. Trudy served in the US Navy during WW II at Ft. Lauderdale Naval Air Station as a Link Trainer. She knew airmen of Flight 19, the 5 Avenger bombers lost at sea in 1945. Trudy was present in Washington, DC for the Dedication for the Women's Memorial at Arlington Cemetery and was instrumental in the dedication of the Walt Whitman Home in Laurel Springs, NJ.
She is survived by two sons, Carl Watson and David Jeffery Genk; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A third son, Glenn Allen Genk passed in 1990. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Trudy's name to the Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast.
A celebration of life is planned for Trudy during the family's family reunion on June 21, 2014 in Woodbury, N.J., close to Laurel Springs where she grew up.
