Gerald S Williams MD passed away Monday January 7th 2008. Gerry was born in Paintsville Kentucky on April 12 1920. He graduated from Stetson University where he met his wife Ann Lytle. From there he went on to Tulane University School of Medicine earning his M.D. degree in 1944. He served as a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps during WW II. His practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology began in Daytona Beach in September 1953. He delivered the first baby to be born at Ormond Memorial Hospital. In 1972 after delivering over 4500 babies he limited his practice to Gynecology. In 1975 he assisted in establishing the Department of Gynecology at the Humana Hospital of Daytona Beach and Chaired the Department for 2 years.
Dr. Williams a leader in his profession was a pioneer in Volusia County in Intrauterine Contraceptive Devises (1961); Cryosurgery in Gynecology (1970); Hysterocopy (1976); and Carbon Dioxide Laser Surgery (1980). He was instrumental in establishing the Abnormal Pap Smear Clinic at the County Health Department in 1981.
His honors included Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1960); Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1957); Fellow of the American Society of Abdominal Surgeons (1964); Fellow of the American Society of Colposcopy and Colpomicroscopy; Founding Member of the South Central Obstetric and Gynecologic Society; Life member of the Florida Medical Association; Life Member of the Volusia County Medical Society; Life member of the Florida Obstetric and Gynecologic Society; and a Founding Member of the Gynecologic Laser Society. He was a longtime member of the Daytona Beach Rotary Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ann and son Richard; and is survived by his son Dr. Gerald Williams Jr. and his wife Anne daughter Ann Bacon and her husband Mike all of Ormond Beach. He was the proud grandfather of: Geran Williams Lighthouse Point Geri Williams New York City and Travis Bacon Ormond Beach.
His family will receive friends on Thursday January 10th from 4pm till 6pm in the chapel of Baggett Summers Funeral Home.
Service and interment for Dr Williams will be held privately at the convenience of his family
