George M. Van Arnam 80 of New Smyrna Beach FL passed away on Sunday September 2 2007 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 12 1927 in Erie PA to George & Alta Van Arnam Mr. Van Arnam moved to the area in 1969 coming from Chautauqua NY. He was a registered EMT and an EMT Instructor for DBCC who managed and operated the Volusia County Ambulance Service for 10 years. He designed and implemented the original rapid communication system between ambulances hospitals and police departments and was a member of the original 911 Committee. He was the founder and Chairman of Vann Data Computer Services. George also served as former Assistant Security Chief for the Daytona Beach Regional Airport was a member of the Sheriff's COP Program a member of the LST Association the Mine Warfare Association the VFW a Past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #2193 and was a U.S. Naval Veteran of both WWII and Korean War. He enjoyed computers sports photographs and flying having made his first solo flight at age 65. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Jane Maas. Survivors include his wife of 59 years Patricia of New Smyrna Beach FL; his sons: Mark Van Arnam & his wife Lisa of Boone NC Jon Van Arnam of W. Palm Beach FL and Scott Van Arnam of Sarasota FL; a daughter Janice L. Huffstickler and her husband Todd of So. Daytona FL: his four grandchildren: John & Emily Huffstickler Emerald Scout Van Arnam & Mark Van Arnam JR. as well as a sister Betty A. Hatch of Bartlett TN. Services will be held on Wednesday September 5 2007 at 2:00pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach FL.
