Thorne George Frederick 86 of Port Orange died Saturday January 1 2011. George was born on July 21 l924 in Brooklyn N.Y and grew up there. He served with distinction in the Navy as a training officer for more than three years during World War 11. He worked for Westinghouse International Company before starting his own college marketing business. He lived in Suffren NY. and Cheshire CT and traveled to colleges throughout the United States with his business. George played tennis basketball and loved to fish and hunt. When he retired he spent his time in Wilbur by the Sea and at the family home at Piseco Lake in the Adirondacks. His hobby then became wood working. George will be missed by Carol his loving wife of 61 years and their eight children: Eric (Deborah) Nyack NY Elizabeth (Barry) Mahwah NJ Bruce (Lita) Harriman NY Victoria (Jay) North Conway NH Craig (Joanie) Nanuet NY Kimberly (Jim) Norfolk CT Melinda (Mike) Piseco NY and Margaret Orangeburg NY; 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren 2 brothers Eric (Lorna) New Smyrna Beach and Lawrence (Verla) Hilton Head SC.. The family would like to thank the staff at Manor on the Green Nursing Home especially Connie Kelly Joel and James for the care and kindness shown George his last few years. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday January 8 at 11 AM at Grace Episcopal Church 4110 S. Ridgewood Avenue Port Orange. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations may be made to the National Wildlife Federation 11100 Wildlife Center Drive Reston VA 20190
