George A. "Rick" White Age 84 of Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach passed away at home on Thursday March 17 2011. A Celebration of Life' Memorial Service will be held on March 27 2011 at 2PM at the Edgewater Union Church United Church of Christ 500 S. Ridgewood Avenue Edgewater FL. Born in Boston MA and was a resident of Florida since 1963 in Orange Park Palatka Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach FL. He was a retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer (AECS) of 22 years service with active duty from 1944 - WWII through the Korean Conflict and retired during the Vietnam Conflict in 1967. He served in the South Pacific Puerto and shipboard duty in the Mediterranean Sea. He taught electrical and electronic systems and flew in the Hurricane Hunters (VW-4) for 4 years. After naval retirement he attended Jacksonville Junior College and the University of North Florida. He was a member of the American Legion Post #17 the Fleet Reserve Association The Retired Enlisted Association the Hurricane Hunters Association and the Gem and Mineral Club of Deland FL. He was a volunteer computer instructor at the New Smyrna Beach Senior Center and he drove for the "Home Delivered Meals" in Andrews NC and spoke at many schools on rocks/minerals and was an avid tennis player for many years. He is survived by his wife "Patty" D. White; sons George R. White of Orange Park FL; James A. White of Jacksonville FL; and Jon A. White of Edgewater FL; his step-son David P. Miller of Madison MS; step-daughter Cherry M. Martin of Cullowhee NC; and 8 grand-children and 10 great-grandchildren.
