On Wednesday April 7th George J. Persis passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. George was born in Lynn Massachusetts on March 3 1922. During WWII he served as a gunner in the US Navy and was a proud member of the Navy band. After his dedicated service to his country he attended cosmetology school and worked as a beautician where he met his wife Rose. George and Rose moved from Arlington MA to this area in 1957 and opened the Vogue Beauty Salon on Beach Street. He retired in 1985 and went on to enjoy work in electronic retail sales.

He was naturally talented and a self-taught Renaissance man. He was an excellent musician dancer handyman and baker. He loved baking birthday cakes for all of his grandchildren. George lived in the present embracing all of today?s technologies and was proficient in the use of computers digital photography and electronics. He could play almost every instrument and was an accomplished organist and clarinetist. He was a past president of the Daytona Beach Organ Club and played the organ for the Daytona Beach Expos. He loved jazz swing big band music and he encouraged his family to share his love of music appreciation. George loved life had a positive attitude and was a great jokester. He lived for his family particularly his grandchildren. For twenty years at Christmas he enjoyed playing Santa for all of them. He also enjoyed impromptu jam sessions with grandson Garrett Lee. Then at age 80 he took up bowling. He loved this hobby more than the others for the opportunity to spend quality time with his bowling buddy great granddaughter Jillian. George wanted only happy memories for his family and will be missed by them so much.

He is survived by his loving wife Rose with whom he shared 56 wonderful happy years; his son Carl Persis and wife Susan of Ormond Beach FL; his two daughters Linda Persis-Lee and husband Bill of Atlanta GA; Denise Jabaly and husband Skip of Daytona Beach FL; his niece Ann Harrington of Daytona Beach FL; his grandchildren Karen Persis Josh and Garrett Lee Paul and Mark Jabaly; Audra Bennett and husband David; great granddaughter Jillian Bennett; two grandnieces and four great grandnieces.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of other remembrances the family requests memorial contributions be made to Rose Persis in care of Coquina Bank 1020 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach FL 32174.
