George Gary Martin, age 93, of Port Orange, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026.

George was born on July 9, 1933, in Washington, D.C., to George MacPherson Connick Martin and Bette Lou Tucker Martin. He spent portions of his life in Maryland and California before making Florida his home. He and his beloved wife, Jonnie Rauseo, made their home together on North Hutchinson Island, where they loved sitting on the balcony and listening to the ocean.

George proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War era. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Eastern New Mexico University.

With a natural gift for business and an entrepreneurial spirit, George owned and operated several successful Florida restaurants. His career began with Captain Hook’s in Altamonte Springs and later took him to Panama City Beach, where he owned multiple restaurants before retiring. Business remained one of his greatest passions throughout his life.

George was equally passionate about sharing new experiences with his children, including water skiing, snow skiing, golfing, and traveling. He coached his son’s Little League teams and remained endlessly curious about science and how things worked. Those closest to him will fondly remember his familiar expressions: “The yin and the yang,” “It is what it is,” and, of course, “Chuckamuckahia.”

Above all else, George loved his family, his country, and the legacy he would leave behind. He was immensely proud of his sons, Greg and Gary. He loved his five grandchildren and growing family of great-grandchildren. George married Jonnie Rauseo in August 2015, and they shared nearly ten years of marriage before her passing in 2025. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jonnie; his son, George Gary Martin II; his parents; his brother, Stephen Hugh Martin; and his sister, Carol Ann Martin.

In a poignant final chapter, George and his sister Carol passed away on the same day. Those who knew George knew that he did not like to be alone, and his family finds comfort in believing that the two made their transition together.

George is survived by his son, Howard Gregory “Greg” Martin; five grandchildren, Adrienne Anderson, Natalie Lambeth, Courtney Martin, Collin Martin, and Dallas Martin; three great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild on the way; and his sisters, Betty Alyna Martin-Fout, Madelyn Olivia Martin-Balkcom, and Shiela Elizabeth Martin-Curtain.

Although George was not affiliated with a particular church, his family has the assurance that he accepted Jesus as his Savior.

A memorial service honoring George’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Lohman Funeral Home, 1201 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, Florida 32127. Alan Migliorato will officiate.

George’s life was marked by ambition, curiosity, adventure, and a deep love for his family. His legacy will continue through the many lives he touched and through the generations of his family who will carry his memory forward.
