Obituary

Memorial service for George John Lippi who passed away on Sunday May 27 2007 will be Friday June 15 at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church 4675 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. Port Orange. George was born on January 22 1929 in Paterson N.J. the eldest of five sons to the late Anthony and Edna Lippi. From a young age George was a people person and enjoyed shining shoes and working in his father's barber shop to earn extra money for his family. He also loved sports and competed as a speed skater at his local roller rink as well as playing football in high school. He joined the army at the age of 22 serving his country with the 2nd Infantry 23rd Regimental Combat Team and spent most of his time in combat zones. George spent 117 consecutive days on the front lines in the Battle for Heartbreak Ridge. As a result for his service he was awarded two Combat Infantry Badges the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. George returned home and met his future wife Mary whom he married in 1964. They enjoyed 42 years of love family and wonderful memories together raising their two daughters. George owned and operated a fish market in Paterson N.J. until he and his family moved to this area in 1980. George worked for Parks Seafood until the 1980's when he began working at King's Seafood. He worked there until his retirement due to health reasons in 2005. George most enjoyed his role as a grandfather to his four grandchildren Ryan Stefanie Zachary and A.J. and spent countless hours with them teaching them to fish telling jokes and cheering them on at every sports game or school event. He also enjoyed his years as a volunteer at Our Lady of Hope bingo and was a parishioner there since OLOH was founded. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. We find comfort in the knowledge that he has been reunited with his loving wife Mary who passed away in January. Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters Edna and Mary their spouses Ron and Sonny; his four grandchildren his brother and sister-in-law Bob and Jean Lippi his aunt Dorothy Rascio and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed tremendously by those who knew and loved him. Memorial donations in George's honor may be made to Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Volusia County Cremation Society.
