Funeral services for George Francis Hughes 81 of Port Orange who passed away peacefully December 8 2006 will be 10:00am Wednesday December 13 2006 at the chapel of Baggett & Summers Funeral Home. Burial will follow services at Daytona Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Tuesday December 11 2006 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Baggett & Summers Funeral Home.
George was born in Newark New Jersey and grew up in Kearny NJ. He joined the Navy at the age of 18 to defend our country during WWII. He married his life-long sweet heart Marion Philburn in 1948 and together they raised four children with love and care in New Jersey. George was a local milkman and hotel owner/ operator and town councilman. Above all George was a loving husband and father. George was committed to community service as a member of the Elks Club and president of the Kiwanis in Hasbrouck Heights. George then moved to Ocala FL. He owned and operated two hotels before relocating to Daytona Beach in 1993. While in Daytona Beach he opened and until recently operated The Casket Store.
George is survived by his wife of 58 years Marion; a daughter Linda Aponte Hackensack NJ; three sons Robert Hughes Port Orange FL Barry Hughes Port Orange FL and Allen Hughes Ponce Inlet FL; and nine grandchildren Nicole Hughes Stephanie Hughes Robert Hughes Michelle Hughes Brian Hughes Scott Hughes Peter Greco Kelly Langschultz and Carrieanne Babcock. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
