George Dimitrakopoulos passed away during the early morning hours of October 28th, 2021 at home with his family by his side.
He was born in Montreal, Canada April 16, 1961, he was the only beloved child to Panayioti "Peter" and Athanasia Dimitrakopoulos. They lived in Montreal with extended uncles, aunts and cousins of which he had treasured memories. From a young age George had the best cooks in his life as his mother and aunts provided the best in Greek cuisine.
At the age of 10 his family moved to Chicago where he attended St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. George always loved to tell stories of his experiences growing up in Greektown of Chicago. While living in Chicago George worked in some of the finest Greek restaurants and clubs "bouzoukia."
George's family moved to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1988 where he became partner in Delta Restaurant before opening his second restaurant Byron's Grill in 1994 with his parents and wife. In 2015 George's children had grown and Athanasia "Sia,", Panayioti "Taki" and Petros partnered with their dad to open Greektown Taverna. Many friendships were made during these years where he provided his passion, great Greek food. George never tired of greeting guests who walked into his businesses. They were always greeted with his infectious smile. He genuinely loved connecting with his guests. Unfortunately his health issues took over his life the last couple of years.
He is preceded in death by his mother Athanasia (2001), his father Panayioti (2014) and his father in law, Petros (2011). He is survived by his wife Helen of 31 years who never left his side during his illness, the pride and joys of his life Athanasia "Sia", Panayioti "Taki" and Petros. George is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and goddaughters. He is also survived by his mother in law, Maria, his brother in law, Nick, his sister in law, Zoe and their families.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 5th between the hours of 5:00-7:00pm with the Trisagion at 6:30pm at Lohman Funeral Home 733 W. Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach, Florida. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 6th at 11am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 129 N. Halifax Ave., Daytona Beach. Memorial Contributions may be made to UF Health Shands Pediatric Patient Care Fund and or St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
