Cruickshanks George - A memorial service for George Halket Cruickshanks 83 Ormond Beach who passed away December 26th 2006 will be held at 3:00pm Thursday December 28th. George was born on April 15th 1923 in Glasgow Scotland United Kingdom. George lived as a child in the warmth of a large family. After graduating high school from Kings Park Secondary School George joined the British Royal Navy in 1941 in support of His Majesty King George VI's war effort. Working in Combined Operations with the British Army George saw service in North Africa with General Montgomery was present at the liberation of Sicily and landed at Gold Beach with the British Eighth Army on June 6th 1944 which lead to the liberation of Europe. George was the recipient of numerous medals for his war service including additional recognition from the French Government during the 50th anniversary celebrations of the D-Day invasion. George has lived in the United States since 1959 living in New York State until retiring to Ormond Beach in 1989. George was an avid golfer and bowler enjoying numerous social events with his friends. A world-wide traveler he has been throughout most of the United States and cruised many times around the Caribbean and Alaska. George was a quiet very kind man loved by all and with many friends. He is survived by his loving wife Elsie son Russell and wife Elizabeth son George Douglas and wife Susan grandchildren Ian Sarah Daniel and Heather and many other relatives around the world. George dearly loved all his friends near and far. In lieu of flowers the family requests that all memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army USA.
