George D. Craigmile, 88, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 18th. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:30 am at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond, 733 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach. The Rev. Frederick F. Hovey, Jr., Rector of St. James Episcopal Church will officiate.

Mr. Craigmile was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. Upon graduating from high school in 1942 he enlisted in the US Navy. He was commissioned as an Ensign at the midshipman school at Harvard University. He served on a destroyer in the Pacific theater during World War II and on a carrier during the Korean conflict; retiring as a Commander after 22 years of service. With a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of San Francisco he joined IBM and retired after 21 years.

Moving from California, he became a resident of Florida in 1992; coming to Ormond Beach from Naples, FL in 2002. He enjoyed playing tennis at the Ormond Beach Tennis Center. He had traveled widely and belonged to the International Bicycle Tours. He had been a leaded stained glass craftsman and had windows, doors and hangings on both coasts. He had been an enthusiastic breeder and trainer of champion Dalmatian dogs for show.

He was a life member of the US Naval Institute and the Military Officers Association of America. He had served several years on the Board of Directors of the Daytona Beach Council of the Navy League of the United States. He was an active member of the Volusia County Sheriffs COP program.

His wife of 33 years, Frances, preceded him in death in 1982. He is survived by his second wife Virginia of Bonita Springs, FL. He is also survived by his daughter, Nancy Winters of Etna, WY; granddaughter Kate Winters of Jackson, WY; granddaughter Ellen Daltrop (Oliver), great-grandson Felix, and great- granddaughter Annika, of Wilson, NC.
