George Thomas Alexiou

George T. Alexiou, beloved brother, uncle and friend departed from this "space-time continuum" on Thursday, August 24th, 2023.  He was born on March 6, 1963 in Gary, Indiana to Thomas Alexiou and Anna Kalamaris Alexiou.  After his father retired from Inland Steel, his parents moved to Chicago to be closer to relatives. George graduated from Foreman High School in 1981, with honors and a scholarship to DePaul University.  He had studied music from the age of 7 and excelled on clarinet and saxophone, receiving the John Philip Sousa and Louis Armstrong awards while performing with the Chicago All-City Performing Arts Orchestra.  The family moved to Daytona in the early 80's to get away from the harsh Chicago winters but his father died shortly after arriving and George stayed to care for his mother.

He had a huge passion for cars, and restored many classic cars, including his favorite candy-apple red 1969 Camaro and a 1966 Ford Thunderbird Convertible.  He had a passion for computers and purchased his first computer in 1982, when very few people knew what the "ugly box" was for.  He had an enormous passion for music, especially Greek music.  He fully restored an antique piano, traveling far to locate the parts that needed to be replaced.  He was an excellent cook and loved to cook Greek dishes for the family; he loved travel and cruising, especially when accompanied by a large group of family and friends.

His nieces and nephews called him "Uncle George" and so did everyone else.  He was a huge sci-fi fan and collected Star Trek art and memorabilia.  He had many talents and many interests, there was nothing he could not fix or understand.  He was the one every one came to for help and helping others was what he did best.  He will be sorely missed by many for a very long time.

George is predeceased by his parents and sisters Angela Tsitas and Betty Alexiou.  He is survived by his sister Tina and her husband Charles, and four nieces and nephews, Thomas and Steve Tsitas, Connie Tsitas and Alexandrea Egger, and his beloved dog Desi.  To those of us he left behind, George would say "Live long and prosper!"
