Obituary

A Memorial Mass for Geneva Selden will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM at The Basilica of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church Daytona Beach with Rev. Tim Daly officiating. The Lord summoned Geneva home on Saturday December 29 2007 at the age of 86. She had full-filled the tasks that He had planned for her. Geneva was born in Wethersfield CT and was the youngest of four other siblings. Having been the youngest it is likely how she acquired the name "Babe" which stuck with her through most of her adulthood. Her parents Adolph Staniewitz and Eva Gleba-Staniewitz came to the United States from Poland and Lithuania respectively and purchased a farm in Wethersfield Ct. where she and her siblings grew up. However they would later relocate to New Britain after losing their home in a fire. While Geneva attended school in New Britain rumor has it that her father was one of the last remaining "Blacksmith's" around. Geneva later attended New Britain High School where she became a member of the "Honor Society" and graduated with honors. Not long after graduating her sister JoAnne convinced her to move to Daytona Beach where she had a job lined up for her at "The Martinique" a local night club located off Main Street. This is where she met John Harris Selden II whom she married in 1943. She then landed a secretarial position with the "Daytona Beach Jaycees". However her career was short-lived upon learning that she was going to become a Mother. She then retired so she could stay home with her children. She enjoyed reading boating family picnics and had nearly mastered the Sunday Crosswords. Predeceasing her were both her parents husband John H. Selden II her daughter Joan Selden-Lingg Sisters Sophie Martin JoAnne Bowman and Helen whom she never knew a bother Eddy Lois Brown sister-in-law nephews Anthony Sidoti and son Tony Frankie Sidoti and Jon "Pepper" Bowman. Those surviving her include her son Robert Raymond Selden wife Ruth Selden Edgewater her daughter Eva Selden husband Larence Ormond Beach her grandson Jeff Selden his wife Dawn Tega Cay SC grand-daughter Lisa Reed her husband Jeff and her great grandchildren Tyler Colin and Claridy all of Spring Branch Tx.
