Gene "Doug" Wilson 76 died Monday April 11th through no fault of his own in a tragic motorcycle accident. He was born in Bakersfield N.C. in 1935. He always loved sports. He played football basketball and was heavily into drag racing which became his passion. He worked several jobs but enjoyed working with his brother Dean doing wiring for speakers intercoms etc. for large companies Duke University being his last.
Doug was quite a good golfer but settled on tennis as his sport. He was an avid player at City Island where players there became his extended family. Doug's playing was poetry in motion a beautiful thing to watch. My friend and his Jeanne wrote about Doug. For many to have had one true friend in life is a treasure but the fact that Doug had so many genuine sincere loving friends is proof of a great friend.
As for myself I will never hear that southern drawl I love so much that wonderful face with the baby blue eyes and sweet smile the life we shared together or him coming home to me every night.
There will be a Celebration of Doug's Life at City Island Tennis Courts on Saturday April 23 2011 at 11:00 A.M. followed by a covered dish lunch
Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond.
