Ormond Beach and Hunters Ridge resident Gary Golgowski died peacefully on March 20, 2020 at the age of 89. Gary was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 19, 1931. He attended St. Francis Preparatory High School in Brooklyn; served four years in the Navy, was discharged as First Class Petty Officer; and in 1959 graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in mechanical engineering. During his career, Gary held engineering and management positions with Sperry Univac, Brunswick Corporation, and General Electric from which he retired in 1993. Having lived in Virginia, Texas, and Pennsylvania, Gary moved to Florida in 1996 from Pottstown, Pennsylvania. In his retirement, he prepared tax returns with H&R Block, volunteered in the Florida Hospital Memorial emergency department for eleven years, was the election clerk of Volusia County precinct 501, and helped his wife Mary in her real estate activities. He was cited as Volunteer of the Year 2008 by YMCA Camp Winona for his work there. He also did tax returns as an AARP volunteer, counseled children in need of support in the local elementary school, and managed jurors in the county courthouse as a volunteer in the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. These activities engendered many friends and acquaintances of Gary in Ormond Beach. Gary is survived by his wife Mary Holliday Golgowski, brother Gregory Golgowski (Helen), of Florida, his sons Bruce Golgowski (Mary) of Pennsylvania, Craig Golgowski of North Carolina, Scott Golgowski of New Jersey and daughters; Kimberly Barnes of California and Diane Hutchinson (John) of Delaware and Florida. He is also survived by five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Internment of ashes, at the family's convenience, will be in the Golgowski family plot in the Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Kisco, New York.
