Gary Keith Bender, age 64 of Daytona Beach, Florida entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs after a courageous battle with cancer. In his final days he was surround by love and family.
Born June 17, 1952 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Gary was the youngest of three sons to the late Andrew Frank Bender and the late Daisy Schreffler (Bender) Yeagley.
Gary graduated from Crossland High School in 1970 and went on to work in telecommunication sales for most of his life. From an early age, he loved the water. That love, matched with an affinity for motorcycles, led Gary to move his family from Virginia to Florida.
His happiest times were when he lived on his boats, but his days on the water didn't rival his memories of weekend bike rides and summer days in the pool or at the beach with his family. A Republican and a biker to the core, Gary was a long-time Rush Limbaugh enthusiast, and he enjoyed volunteering at the B.F.F.A.R. club (Bikers for First Amendment Rights).
He was strong and caring, and would find a way to be there for his family and friends. Not wanting to be a burden to anyone, even on his worst days, "It's another day in paradise," became his refrain and the name of his most recent boat. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.
Gary leaves behind his two daughters, Diana Bill and Kelly Bender, his son-in-law, Michael Bill, and three grandsons, Tyler, Jaxson and Mason Bill. He also leaves behind his older brothers, Don and his wife Bonnie and David and his wife Nonnie, along with two nieces and two nephews. While Gary's parents have recently passed, he leaves behind his stepmother, Evelyn Bender, and stepfather, Harry Yeagley.
Gary's memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14, at Lohman's Funeral Home, 1423 Bellevue Ave. in Daytona Beach. There will be a gathering from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. followed by the service at 2 p.m. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to the Appendix Cancer Research Foundation, ACPMP.org.
