Frederick Francis Boyd, 84, was an Irishman, an Orangeman, a man who never stopped believing in leprechauns and pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. He passed away peacefully in his Daytona Beach home with his daughter holding his hand on September 28, 2013.

He was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on August 26, 1929 in Sandy Row, the toughest Protestant neighborhood in Belfast. He loved travel, especially to his beloved Northern Ireland and the Glens of Antrium. He was a Royal Navy Cadet and ran away from home at the age of 14 with forged papers to join Her Majesty's Royal Navy and was on a ship bound for Canada before being found out. He made it to Canada five years later, legally, on an ocean liner with his wife and daughter. Moving to Chicago in 1956, he raised eight children and worked with Carpenters Local 1 had a hand in building many of Chicago's downtown skyscrapers. Frederick had many side ventures; from campgrounds, boat rentals, miniature golf courses, to cottages and apartment buildings. He never stopped dreaming and planning.

Frederick was a Shriner in the Medinah Temple for 47 years and a 32nd degree Free and Accepted Mason in the Scottish Rite as well as a Past Master of the Myrtle Covenant Masonic Lodge #141 in Irving Park, Chicago. He spent 57 years in the Carpenters Union Local 1 and in the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Chicago. He enjoyed oil painting, architecture, swimming, fishing, hunting and a good cigar with a glass of cognac. Frederick was a true Irish Tenor and could play the accordion and harmonica as well as many other instruments without any formal training.

He will be missed the most by his son Kevin and daughter Jennifer, who cared for his needs and gave him many fun times in Florida over the past 20 years.

Frederick was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Isobel Boyd of Belfast, brother Sammy of Carrickfurgus, and son Patrick David of Chicago. He is survived by seven loving children, 14 beloved grandchildren and three beloved great-grandchildren in Scotland, Chicago and New Jersey. Frederick is also survived by three sisters in Belfast and one sister in Canada.

A visitation is scheduled for Thursday October 3, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Baggett & Summers Funeral Home, 736 S. Beach Street, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. A graveside committal is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at Daytona Memorial Park, 1423 Bellevue Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. In lieu of flowers Frederick's family would like donations to be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children at 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
