Fred B. Hetherington 99 of Ormond Beach passed away Tuesday February 20 2007. Recognized for his volunteer service for 25 years as director of bridge for the Senior Citizens Center he was an avid short wave radio hobbyist golfer and bridge enthusiast. For 32 years he was a member of Oceanside Country Club.
Mr. Hetherington and his wife Polly celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary shortly before her death in 2004. He is survived by sons James R. (Susan) of Indianapolis IN; Robert A. (Doris) of Cumming GA; and John D. (Janet) of Phoenix AZ; seven grandchildren two step granddaughters thirteen great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hetherington was son of Carl and Anna (Tharp) Hetherington. He was born in Indianapolis IN graduated from Shortridge High School and Purdue University where he lettered in high dive and wrestling and until his death was the oldest living P-Man. He belonged to Theta Xi fraternity. Prior to attending college he organized a radio unit of the Indiana National Guard. For almost 40 years he was employed by American Telephone and Telegraph Co in Indianapolis and later in New York City. Chatham NJ was the family residence for more than 30 years before moving to Ormond Beach in 1974.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond at 2:00 p.m. with The Reverend Virginia K. Barnes officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.
