IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Francis Leroy
Smith
July 25, 1934 – January 25, 2025
Francis L. Smith, affectionately known as "Frank" or "Sparky," passed away on January 25, 2025, in Ormond Beach, Florida. He was born on July 25, 1934, in Bradford, Pennsylvania, to Marie Smith.
After graduating from Bradford High School, Frank proudly served in the United States Air Force for six years. Following his military service, he began a long and dedicated career at Zippo Manufacturing, where he worked as a superintendent for 27 years. During this time, Frank and his first wife opened their home to many foster children, providing them with stability and care until they found permanent homes-a testament to his generosity and compassion.
In retirement, Frank relocated to Florida and embarked on a second career with the Department of Corrections at the Volusia County Jail. He served as a Lieutenant for 20 years, earning the respect of his colleagues and community.
Frank had a zest for life and enjoyed many hobbies over the years. In his younger days he loved camping and traveling. Later in life he found joy in visiting Las Vegas, where he enjoyed playing the slot machines and attending shows. A devoted sports fan, Frank enjoyed watching golf and cheering for the New York Mets and Orlando Magic.
He is survived by his son Tom Smith and daughter-in-law Angela Smith; his life partner Sherry Albuquerque; his stepdaughter Danielle Roy; a granddaughter and three great grandchildren.
Frank will be laid to rest at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida. Funeral services will be announced at a later date.
Frank's legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication will be remembered by all who knew him. He was the life of a party and never met a stranger. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
