Daytona Beach
NUHN, Frances Marie (nee: Rine)
A Celebration of Life Service for Frances (Fran) NUHN (nee: Rine) formerly of Ormond Beach, FL., who passed into eternal life on Sunday, October 8, 2023, will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023 1PM in the Chapel of The Woodmark of Daytona Beach, FL. She was born in Canton, Ohio to Elizabeth and Leroy Rine and grew up in the small town of Louisville, Ohio.
Frances began her career working for the United States government and moved to Washington, D.C. She worked for the U.S. Navy Department and was then assigned to the Office of Naval Intelligence. From there she was transferred to the National Security Agency at Ft. Meade, Maryland. In 1949 she married her husband, Richard L. Nuhn. She and her husband, during their government careers as civilians, were assigned to work in Japan. Frances was assigned to the American Embassy in Tokyo while her husband was on special assignment.
Upon returning from Japan, Frances transferred to the Naval Ship Research and Development Center located in Annapolis, Maryland as an Administrative Assistant. After her retirement from government service she worked for the Nolan Company in Annapolis, MD as Office Manager.
In 1982 she and her husband retired and moved to Ormond Beach, FL where they were able to travel extensively and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Her beloved husband, Richard, preceded her in death in 1989.
For many years she was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach and the Seeker's Bible class and was actively engaged in volunteering within the community.
Frances enjoyed traveling to Great Britain visiting all her Welsh relatives and friends and became a "round-the-world" traveler. Also she was an avid reader, enjoyed puzzles of all kinds.
Frances came from a family of 8 siblings but was the last to survive of all her brothers (3) and sisters (4). She loved life, her family and friends, and had a deep and abiding love and faith in her God whom she worshiped daily.
In her later years Frances retired to Bishop's Glen Retirement Center in Holly Hill, FL and was deeply indebted to the staff and many friends who made residing there a truly happy experience. While living at Bishop's Glen she became a member of Providence Church.
Frances is survived by a loving and caring daughter, Terry Lee Dodson of Catonsville, Maryland, as well as many nieces and nephews and two very special friends who were always there when needed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Florida United Methodist Children's Home at 51 Children's Way, Enterprise, FL 32725. Condolences may be shared with the family below.
