Frances Marion Morea, age 91, departed this life November 13th, 2014. Frances was the eldest of nine children born to Howard and Laura (Cahill) Flowers in Portsmouth, Ohio. Eager for independence Frances left home after graduating high school for Cincinnati where she used her excellent skills in short hand (Ohio State Champion 1941) and typing while working for Western Union. In 1942 she enlisted in the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) and served as Yeoman 2nd class at Naval Station Great Lakes in North Chicago, Il until 1945. Married to Charles K. Reed (Ken) in 1945 and mother of three children, Frances was always a "working mother" in the days when many were "stay at home moms". A sharp business mind and great organizational skills made her an indispensable employee for many over the years. Job descriptions included book keeper, office manager, executive and legal secretary. She also owned and managed a motel and held a real estate license.
In 1968 Frances married William H. Morea, Jr. (Bill). Together they moved to Daytona Beach, FL from Waukegan, IL in 1972 and Houston, TX in 1981. Together they retired to Hartwell, GA in 1990. Retirement allowed her to become active in the community and she served for many years at the Hartwell Library, on the vestry of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, volunteer and board service of the local thrift store and as a census surveyor. Frances loved to work, read, dance and care for her home and family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Howard, Richard and Charles Robert Flowers, sisters: Thelma Bailey, Darlene Willard, Carol Elkins and Erma Barker, beloved husband Bill Morea and 1st husband Ken Reed and son-in-law Marc Rosenberg. She is survived by her brother Lawrence E. Flowers and wife Karen, children: Ronald P. Reed and wife Joanne, Patricia Reed-Rosenberg and Dawn Reed Foster, William H. Morea III and wife Lois and Sherry Morea Oaks, grandchildren: Kristin Foster Miller (Dan), Marjorie Foster, Reed E. Rosenberg (Kristen), Zoe Rosenberg, Adrienne Morea, Lisa Benoit (Chris) and Lance Bruck, great grandchildren: Liam, Scarlett & Balin Stallard, Emilia Miller, Kyle & Emily Benoit and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at Bishops Glen, Holly Hill on Saturday, Nov. 15th. Donations can be made in Frances's memory to Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast.
