Obituary

Florence Hopkins (nee Thompson), 92, died September 12, 2019.  A Florida resident for over 40 years.

Born 1927 in Springfield, MA to Edwin and Una Thompson (nee Childs).  Growing up with three brothers in Massachusetts, Florida and Alabama as the family followed the post-depression construction boom in the 1940's, she graduated high school in Gadsden AL and enrolled in Nursing School in Birmingham AL.  Her traveling life went global when she married her first husband Billy DeBerry, a Seabee in the U.S. Navy, and they lived in Bermuda and Ireland.

She then married Charles Hopkins and worked in the medical field in various capacities including Surgical Assistant to an Oral Surgeon often bringing home many detailed procedural descriptions of how her day went to the family dinner table, ultimately retiring from Alliance Health And Rehabilitation Center in Deland, Florida as an LPN after 17 years of "taking care of her 'old people'" until formally retiring when she was 84.

Florence is survived by her two sons Bruce DeBerry (Wendy) and Flin DeBerry (Karen), three grandchildren Aaron, Benjamin, and Kali, and also a brother, Ed Thompson.

Her hobbies ranged from breeding miniature and toy poodles in Ireland, ancestral research leading to her becoming a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), being an expert Bingo player, and an active member of Four Towns Community Church.

A service will be held at Hugh Ash Manor (Zee Room), 740N Woodland Blvd. Deland FL .
