Floanna Helen Burrows Anderson died in New Smyrna Beach on April 25 2013. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 11:00 A.M at Edgewater New Smyrna Beach Cemetery, 700 S. Ridgewood Ave Edgewater FL.
Floanna was born in Centrahoma, OK in 1915. Her family moved to Florida in 1921 first to Kissimmee and then to New Smyrna Beach where she grew up. Her parents were much beloved community leaders. Her mother, Leoti Newman Burrows, taught music at New Smyrna Beach High School who gave many students private lessons and was an organist at both the Methodist and Episcopal churches. Her father, U.J. Burrows, was head of the NSB Chamber of Commerce for a number of years and conducted the city band.
During her high school days Floanna played her flute in the Daytona Beach Municipal Band and was first flutist in the All State Orchestra in Jacksonville. She attended Stetson University on a full scholarship joined the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and was elected May Queen during her senior year. Following graduation she taught second grade at the Live Oak School for 12 years (1938-1950).
Floanna married C. Evert Anderson a Great Lakes ship captain who visited friends in NSB during the winter months and they had one daughter Carolee Anderson Seaborn. During the summers when Evert was sailing the lakes Floanna became active in various special interest groups such as the Shakespeare Reading Group the Book Review Club a poetry club a philosophy club and arts and crafts groups. She played tennis five days a week. During the winter she and Evert traveled the world and visited every state in our country. Evert died in 1996 following a long illness. Floanna maintained her activities and home until she moved to Atlanta in 2010 to live with Carolee and Gary Seaborn. Carolee died suddenly in March 2011. Gary moved to New Smyrna Beach with Floanna shortly thereafter and gave her loving care until her death. She was also a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of New Smyrna Beach where she played the piano for many years. Floanna is survived by her son-in-law Gary Seaborn her niece Sally Burrows Olsson (Tampa) and her nephew Arthur E. Burrows Jr. (Ft. Lauderdale).
