Fernandes Francisco L. 91 born Feb. 2 1919 in Brava Cape Verde passed away in his home in Port Orange on March 13 2010 surrounded by his wife children and friends. A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday March 19 2010; 8:30 AM at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church 4675 S. Clyde Morris Port Orange FL with Fr. Stephen Ogonwa officiating followed by an interment at Daytona Memorial Park. A visitation on Thursday March 18 2010 5:30-8:00 PM at the Port Orange chapel of the Lohman Funeral Homes.Francisco was a retired seaman who spent many years of his life out at sea working on oil tankers and other ships to provide for his family. He came with his family to the United States in 1967 from Cape Verde and settled in Boston MA. After retiring from the Exxon Corp. he moved his family to Port Orange Fl. In 1978 because he loved the weather the beach and the abundance of nature here that reminded him of his cherished homeland. Francisco was a man of honor integrity and tradition who loved the Lord and his family above all else. He had a generous spirit and made sure that his homeand his heartwas always open for anyone who walked through his doors. No matter the situation he was always there for those in need. He is survived by his wife Idilia with whom he was married to for 67 years and their children Rosa Fortes Maria Serena Dominguez Barbosa Maria Costiello Silvia Fernandes Margarida Fernandes Orlando Fernandes Joao Fernandes Amna "Doris" Al Jallaf and Orisa Figueroa. Francisco is also survived by nieces nephews and many other loved relatives who are too numerous to name. Francisco will be missed but we know that he is now with our Father in heaven.
