Eva's life was a testament to faith, love, and dedication to her family and community.
Eva Amaro, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, pastor, and devoted servant of God, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, Eva's life was a testament to faith, love, and dedication to her family and community. While living in New York, she met the love of her life, Jose, in church. Their shared faith brought them together, and they were married in April 1955, beginning a loving partnership that spanned nearly 68 years until Jose's passing on January 17, 2023.
Eva dedicated her life to serving the Lord and ministering to others. As a retired pastor, she faithfully served as Senior Pastor of Christian Revival Temple in New Bedford, Massachusetts, for 19 years. Through her leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the Gospel, she touched countless lives and inspired many in their walk of faith. She retired from ministry in July 2017 and relocated the following month to DeLand, Florida, where she continued to be an active member of El Santuario.
A woman of many interests, Eva was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. She loved watching every game and could enthusiastically discuss player statistics, team history, and current season highlights with anyone willing to listen. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting, completing word searches and puzzles, and spending precious time with her family. Above all else, her greatest passion was reading the Bible daily and sharing the message of God's love through her ministry and personal example.
Through her leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the Gospel, she touched countless lives.
Eva was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose Amaro; and her siblings, Victor Ortiz, Doris Santana, and Carmen Cruz.
She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory forever, including her children, Elizabeth Mandel (James) of The Villages, Florida, Annette Amaro of DeLand, Florida, Samuel Amaro (Karen) of Winchester, Virginia, and Jeannette Amaro (Maurice Satherswaite) of Deltona, Florida; her sister, Lydia Herrera (Jorge) of Dallas, Texas; her grandchildren, Daniel, David, John J., Ruben, Rebecca, Tori, Raquel, and Lexy; and 13 treasured great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, fellow believers, and all those whose lives were blessed by her ministry.
Though her family mourns her passing, they take comfort in knowing that she has entered her eternal home and is now reunited with her beloved Jose and those who went before her in faith.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life beginning at 7:30 p.m. at El Santuario, 401 Taylor Road East, DeLand, Florida 32724. Interment will take place on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at DeLand Memorial Gardens.
Condolences, memories and photos may be shared in the guest book.
