A Memorial Service for Eugene "Gene" Diestel 71 of Port Orange who died Tuesday November 20 2007 will be held at 10:30 am Thursday November 29 2007 at the Port Orange Chapel of Lohman Funeral Homes. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Gene was born on October 22 1936 to the late Charles and Agnes Diestel in New York. He entered the US Navy at the age of 17 where he served as a Seabee until being honorably discharged. Gene moved to this area in the late 1950's and was owner/operator of Diestel Plumbing until retiring. He enjoyed golf earlier in life as well as collecting U.S. vintage coins. Gene leaves to cherish his memory his children Kathleen Brian and Kendra and her husband Wayne; brothers Jim and Joe; seven grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years Winifred "Winky". Memorial donations may be made in honor of Gene to: Halifax Humane Society 2364 W. LPGA Blvd Daytona Beach FL 32120.
