Eugene Charles Bingham passed from this life into the next surrounded by loved ones on Monday September 2 2013. Gene was born into a coal mining family on October 8 1930 in Filbert WV. Soon after graduating High School he volunteered for service in the US Army. While stationed in post WWII Japan he played clarinet in the Army Band. He volunteered for Army service a total of three times and once for the WV National Guard. During his military career Gene honorably served our country in many ways highlighted by his combat Infantry service in the Korean War. His overseas tours included Japan Korea Okinawa and France. He received multiple commendations and medals for his actions while defending our country. He retired as a Sergeant First Class from the Army and began a successful civilian career with the Veterans Administration in Tampa FL and the Social Security Administration in Daytona Beach FL. After retiring a second time he enjoyed spending time with his family. Gene is predeceased by his parents Frank and Myrtle Swartz Bingham. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Lois Johns Bingham his children: Dennis (Mary Lou) Bingham of Kingsland GA Theresa (Bill) Blair of Deland Frank Bingham of Daytona Beach and Johnny (Carleen) Bingham of Ormond Beach and his sister Judith Smith of WV. Also left heartbroken to cherish his memory are one Niece two Nephews 11 Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren. A Visitation will be held Saturday September 7 2013 at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond from 12:00 to 1:00pm with a Memorial Service in Gene's honor starting at 1:00pm.
