Obituary

Ettie Koon Dunne 82 of Daytona Beach who retired in 1981 as a librarian at Mainland Senior High School died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center.
Services will be held 2:00pm Sunday July 30 2006 at Baggett & Summers Funeral Home with Reverend James Smith officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00pm to the time of service. Ms. Dunne moved to this area as an infant from her native Hopkinsville Kentucky. Upon her graduation from high school in 1914 she worked at the Naval Air Station in DeLand until 1946. She graduated from Stetson University in 1948 and married Raymond G. Dunne in 1950 who later went on to become the first elected Superintendent of Schools for the Volusia County School Board. Ray Dunne predeceased Ettie Dunne in August 1991. Ms. Dunne also worked for T.K. Wetherell from 1983-87 when he was one of the local legislatures and served as Speaker of the House of Representatives prior to his moving out of the area where he now serves as the President of Florida State University. Ms. Dunne remained as active member of the local ADK sorority chapter her local bridge club group Florida Retired Teachers Association and various other interests and activities locally. She was a longtime member of the Highlands Presbyterian Church where she served in various volunteer capacities for many years prior to her recent illnesses.
Survivors include her son William Port Orange her daughter-in-law Kimberley Port Orange; and her two grandchildren Justin and Kelsi both of Port Orange. Memorial Donations may be made to the Daytona Beach Community College foundation 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd. Daytona Beach FL. 32120-2811. Baggett & Summers Daytona Beach is in charge.
