Obituary

A life long resident of the Daytona Beach area, Ethel Virginia Cook Bailey was called home by our Lord, Monday, February 9. Born October 25, 1930, Ethel attended Holly Hill School and graduated from Mainland High School on Bay Street in 1950. She began her 30 year career with Southern Bell as an operator on the switch board. A dedicated, hard working lady, later became a supervisor for most of her career. Ethel married the "love" of her life William "Bill" Bailey in 1961 and completed her family giving birth to a son William "Chuck" Bailey and a daughter Barbara Ann Bailey. After retiring in 1984, she spent her time enjoying her family, traveling with Bill and insuring both her children graduated from college. Ethel was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She is predeceased by her husband, Bill; her mother and father, Maggie John and Robert E. Cook; sisters, Ruby Lee VonKaas and Rosa Caroline Cook, brothers, TV "Teeter" Cook, Jesse "Willard" Cook, and Robert E."Dick" Cook, Jr.; and brothers-in-law, Vernon VonKaas and Don Threlkeld. She is survived by her children, Chuck and Barbara; grandson, David Austin Spivey II; sisters, Alice Threlkeld and Mary Cook; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of her life will be held at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Avenue, on Saturday, February 14, 1:00pm. The family asks in lieu of flowers donations be made in her honor to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
