Ethan Joseph
Wilson
Apr 28, 1989 — Feb 3, 2023
Ethan "Slim" Joseph Wilson, 33, of New Smyrna Beach, departed this life on February 4th, 2023, surrounded by hundreds of his closest friends, family, and coworkers. He went out doing what he loved - surfing the Inlet with friends. Ethan lived his life to the absolute fullest - and was an avid surfer, cross-fitter, skateboarder, skier, wood-worker, fisherman, and lover of the outdoors. He was a dedicated public servant, who started his career at Volusia County Sheriff's Office Central Communications, and later became a firefighter/paramedic for the Ormond Beach Fire Department. Ethan was the recently-elected Vice President of his firefighter's union, a proud dog-dad to Finn, and above all else, a devoted husband and father to his wife, Ashley, and infant son, Coast. Ethan was a pillar of the community. Well-known for his kindness, generosity, and for the joy he brought into the lives of all he met. He is bereaved by the community at-large, which rallied around him in his final hours to send him off with honor and gratitude. In true Ethan fashion, his last decision was an act of generosity; his organs were donated to save the lives of others. Some of those donations have already been received, and Ethan's legacy lives on in the second chances for life he gave to total strangers. Helping people was his way, it was who he was. Whether it was his friends & family, his patients, or just people he met - he would come to the aid of anyone at anytime. He was as selfless and kind as he was fun and ruthlessly organized. There was rarely a photo taken of Ethan not smiling. He was proud of his historic New Smyrna home, of the care he took with his belongings, his glorious mustache, and most of all he was a proud father to Coast, and was excited for the journey of fatherhood that awaited him. Ethan is survived by his loving wife, Ashley, his 2-month-old son, Coast Jack, his mother Deb, sisters Katie and Megan, goodest-boy Finn, his nieces and nephews Winslow, Charlotte, Tristen, Landon, and Paisley, and his countless friends, coworkers, neighbors, and relatives who will miss him dearly. A public service and optional paddle-out will be held this Saturday, February 11th, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., at the Flagler Avenue Boardwalk in New Smyrna Beach. Donations are being made to Ethan's wife, Ashley, through a GoFundMe page, and donations can also be mailed to 2464 Lydia Way, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168. The unbelievable outpouring of love and support from this community has provided invaluable comfort in this difficult time. We love you all for loving Ethan.
