Obituary

Eric Carlton Holman, born on December 15, 1963, in Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on February 1, 2025 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Eric grew up in Marietta, Georgia; relocated to Daytona Beach to pursue his dream of "becoming a local". Eric was determined to become a lifeguard, overcoming his fear of water. He learned to swim and served as a lifeguard with the Volusia County Lifeguard Corps from 1993-1996. He developed a deep connection to the ocean and beach culture. Eric took pride in being a Florida resident for nearly 40 years, never once evacuating for a hurricane.

After graduating from the University of North Florida, Eric worked in the garden center at Wal-Mart for 17 years. He shared his knowledge and passion for plants and gardening with countless customers. Eric was a crackerjack at many things. He was a skilled surfer, an avid reader and collector of books. He had a penchant for the dying art of letter writing. He enjoyed ice skating and cycling. He had a profound love for animals. They brought joy to his daily life. He was also a talented artist. He loved elaborate holiday decorations and turned his cars into billboards with lights and bumper stickers.

Most of all, Eric loved his family. He delighted in decorating Easter eggs and organizing hunts with his nieces, creating cherished family traditions. He enjoyed spending quality time by the sea with his extended family.

Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Callaway Holman and Cody Ray Holman, Sr. and his sister, Rachel Holman. Eric is survived by his sister Gay-Lynn Turner (Jim), brother Cody Ray Holman, Jr. (Rebecca), sister Marcia Bridges (Edward), and many wonderful nieces, great-nieces, and cousins.
