Obituary

Emmett Etheredge made his transition December 29, 2013, peacefully at the Sterling House of DeLand, FL., where he lived very happily for the last year of his time with us. A Graveside service is being held for Emmett is 1PM Friday, January 10, 2014 at Deland Memorial Gardens. Visitation for Emmett will be Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Lohman Funeral home Deland from the hours of 11am and 12:30 pm. Emmett was born in Geneva, FL, on April 24, 1925 and lived in FL until joining the US Marine Corps in 1942. He saw combat in the Pacific Theater during World War II. When he left the Marine Corps in 1946, he relocated to Washington, DC, where he lived for 40 years. He retired from the Office Employees International Union, where he was the Secretary-Treasurer, in 1985, and returned to FL to live in Lake Helen. Emmett was an active member, former deacon and choir director of the Calvary Baptist Church of DeLand. Emmett loved to sing and play the organ, and had a smile and a joke for everyone, He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

Emmett is preceded in death by his wives Ruth, Betty, and Ollie, and his daughters Martha and Katherine. He is survived by his children Margaret Sohn and Steven Etheredge, San Diego; Mary Etheredge, Toronto; his grandchildren Christine Shores, Alex and Justin Etheredge; and five stepchildren.
