Emily Harris Mucklow 92 of Daytona Beach Florida moved to a better place one last time on January 28 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center. A Funeral Service will be held on February 11 2012 at 1:00 pm at St. Mary's Episcopal Church 216 Orange Ave. Daytona Beach FL. 32114 followed by interment in the Mather Memorial Garden at St. Mary's. Emily was born in Shavertown PA. She moved to Florida in World War II and lived in various cities there over the decades. She enjoyed the beach boating and all Florida had to offer. Emily married Don Mucklow in Miami in 1942 and afterwards moved to Orlando in 1960 where Martin Marietta employed her as an Illustrator and Editor/Writer until 1969. She moved to New Jersey. Emily earned an A.S. Degree from Mercer County Community College Trenton N.J. in 1977 while employed there providing technical assistance to the library coordinating alumni affairs and supervising the Media Center until retiring in 1982. Emily enjoyed painting and writing and was a freelance artist and writer since 1953. She lived in Pennsylvania and Florida after retirement. Emily joined St. Mary's Church in Daytona Beach in 1990 where she was active in the Order of the Daughters of the King and remained a member of St. Mary's until now. She lived at Louttit Manor (now Westminster Canterbury) retirement home next to the church and the Olds Hall/Good Samaritan Center almost across the street. Emily is among those who resided at the Olds Hall/Good Samaritan Center facilities the longest if not the longest. She served her community by conducting art workshops writing workshops and helping organize events -- Such as the first "Biker Babes" visit to Olds Hall. Emily volunteered as a "Friendly Visitor" to residents at the Good Samaritan Center nursing home even after she moved from independent living in the historic Olds Hall into the Assisted Living Facility. She continued her lifelong hobby of painting as long as she could and her paintings are hung in St. Mary's church the Good Samaritan Center and many other locations in the area and elsewhere. She helped brighten up the facilities by decorating the large monthly calendars in color. When her back got so bad that she could no longer bend over to do the coloring the staff would hang the calendars on a wall so that she could still do it. She lost her memory in her later years. But she was cheerful and could still recognize those she loved even if she no longer remembered names. Emily was preceded in death by: her father Benjamin T. Harris from Wales; mother Blodwen E. Harris; sisters Dorothy Ann Gwen and Miriam; brother Benjamin; and her infant son Dale. Surviving are: sister Blodwen "Bobby" Otto of Pennsylvania; son Glenn Mucklow (wife Melanie) of Virginia; grandchildren Shawn Williams and Eric Mucklow; and great grandchildren Jonathan and David Williams. She also leaves behind many nieces nephews and friends.
