Mrs. Elsie Butterbaugh Gallagher 93 died at Emeritus Assisted Living in Sarasota Florida on April 30 2011 going to be with Jesus and her husband of 53 years. She was born in Tyrone Pennsylvania on April 21 1918 to George and Elsie Butterbaugh. She graduated from Tyrone High School in 1936 and worked for the US Government including the Quartermaster Corp and WPA prior to her marriage to Melvin Gallagher of Hastings Pa. in 1943. They lived in Pennsylvania West Virginia and finally settled in the Daytona Beach Florida area in 1953. Melvin died in 1995.
Elsie and Melvin (Babe) loved to travel and visited places all over the world often to conventions for Quota International of which she was a charter member. They both loved working at the Daytona Beach Speedway for NASCAR and motorcycle races raising money for Quota's projects supporting the hearing impaired.
The Gallaghers had four daughters; Mary Wolfe (widow of John Wolfe) of Reston Virginia who has two sons one daughter and six grandchildren; Jeanne McCoy of Sarasota Florida who has one son and four grandchildren; Betsy Trucksis (wife of David Trucksis) of Atlanta Georgia who has two daughters and three grandchildren; Margie Alfano (wife of Frank Alfano) of Orlando Florida who has four sons and two daughters and two grandchildren. One of the biggest joys for Elsie was to have the entire family home for Christmas which was a tradition for many years.
Elsie and Melvin lived in Laurelwood Mobile Estates and attended Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange. In 2001 Elsie moved to Sarasota to live with her daughter Jeanne.
The family would like to thank the angels from the Memory Care Unit at Emeritus Sarasota who lovingly took extraordinary care of their mom for the last 17 months. They also would like to show their appreciation to Tidewell Hospice for their support and guidance during this difficult time.
Elsie was a supporter of many causes including the USO Missionary Aviation Fellowship and Habitat for Humanity and in lieu of flowers the family requests donations to any of these organizations.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m on Friday September 2nd 2011 at Baggett & Summers Funeral Home 733 S. Beach St Daytona Beach FL 32114.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange on Saturday September 3rd 2011 at 10:00 a.m. burial will follow at Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery.
