Obituary

Elizabeth "Betsy or Beth" Houghton (Papen) Sargent, 81, of Port Orange, FL passed away on August 18, 2017 after a short illness, She was the wife of Stuart E. Sargent. They just celebrated 62 years of marriage together. She was born in Boston, MA to Merrill Y. Papen and Elizabeth (Pickard) Papen. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Merrillyn (Papen) Hauman, step mother, Janet McMillan and step brother, Richard McMillan. She was raised in Lexington Massachusetts and graduated from Lexington High School. She worked in the school office following graduation. She met her husband, Stuart on a blind date arranged by his brother, Bruce Sargent. A story she loved to tell.

As a trained secretary she worked many jobs, but her last job was as a lead technician at Pioneer Standard Electronics from which she retired in 2000. She was a caring and much loved mother of four sons whom Stuart and she raised in Chelmsford, MA. After moving to Florida she kept close contact with her many family members and friends, who meant so much to her. She never failed to send cards with the most comforting and inspiring sentiments, as the occasion required, to family members and friends who most needed them. While in Florida she enjoyed going to yard sales and gardening with husband. She was very accomplished at growing orchids and loved sharing her interest in orchids and gardening with family and friends. She will be very much missed.

She is survived by: her husband, Stuart, four sons, of whom she was extremely proud. Christopher (Virginia), of Lowell, MA, Brian (Sarah), of Candia, NH, Gary Sargent, of Deering, NH, and David (Lee) of Las Vegas, NE. Also, she leaves an expecting granddaughter, Jessica Sargent of Shirley, MA, her brother Richard Papen (Anne) of Center Sandwich, NH, brother-in law Bruce Sargent (Gabrielle) of S. Paris, ME. She also leaves a very close friend that she considered as her adopted daughter, Julie Carter of in Tamworth, NH and her family. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be on Saturday August 26th at 3:00 PM from the Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange, 1201 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, with a viewing for family and friends from 2:00pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
