She was born July 3, 1927 in Marianna, FL to the late John and Myrtle Milton. She descended from a very distinguished family. Her great grandfather was the late Gov. Elizabeth distinguished in her own right graduated Marianna High School in 1945. She made her mark on Florida State University where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Receiving her Bachelor's degree in Journalism in 1950, her first job was a three year stint with the Tallahassee Democrat before she moved on to The Tampa Daily Times in 1953. Finally ending up at the Daytona Beach News Journal in 1957, she made her way as a reporter and later as county editor and assistant regional editor. Retiring 28yrs later in 1983, she was inducted into The News-Journal 25 year club, honoring employees who have served a quarter of a century.
Living in Daytona Beach for 58 years, Liz loved gardening, reading and going to the beach which was practically at her doorstep. Her favorite hobby was traveling the world with her brother/best friend sifting through archaeological sites.
She was an inspiration and pioneer for woman in education and professional career at a time when it was difficult for woman to join the workforce. Her stories and southern charm will be missed by all who knew her. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com.
