Elizabeth B. "Betty" Mathis 85 of Port Orange passed away on September 18 2008. She was born on December 3 1922 in Boston MA. Elizabeth was retired from the State of Virginia. Mrs. Mathis came to this area 6 years ago from Lynchburg VA. Elizabeth was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lynchburg and Epiphany Catholic Church in Port Orange. Betty was an avid reader a big fan of the Jeopardy TV game show and throughout her life she enjoyed giving her time serving the community. Mrs. Mathis is preceded in death by her parents Augustin and Anne Brennan her husband of 37 years Gordon "Bob" Mathis and her grandson William "Billy" Mathis. Elizabeth is survived by her son Dr. Robert Mathis of Daytona Beach Shores; son and daughter-in-law Rick and Sandy Mathis of Lilburn GA; son Patrick Mathis of Riverside CA son Russell Mathis of Virginia Beach VA; sister Margaret Scanlon of Boston MA; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
