Lulu Elizabeth Ellzey was born on August 15 1920 in Deland Florida to the late Cecil and Gladys Ellzey. A visitation will be held on Saturday May 28 at 10:00 am at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona 1423 Bellevue Avenue Daytona Beach FL 32114 followed by a Graveside Service at 11:00 am at Daytona Memorial Park. The family moved to Holly Hill Florida and Lassie graduated from Mainland High School. She was an Honor Graduate and a member of the National Honor Society. Lassie played varsity basketball for four years and participated in many other high school activities. After graduation she attended Stetson University for two years. Lassie married William Thomas Mahoney USN on November 27 1941 in Daytona Beach Florida. After flying as a naval aviator during WW II Bill became a member of the Naval Reserve and they moved to Daytona where he worked with Cecil in the Electric Service Company for about 5 years before the Korean War. Bill was called to active duty at the start of the Korean War and remained active until retirement in 1962 in Norfolk Virginia. Lassie and Bill had five children during those years before retirement and they were stationed in Jacksonville FL; East Greenwich RI; Pensacola FL; Brunswick GA; and Virginia Beach VA. They retired to Jacksonville and built a second home in Sky Valley GA as a mountain retreat where they spent the summer months every year. Lassie was a devoted wife mother and grandmother. She was also an avid golfer and bridge player. Elizabeth is survived by her brother Richard Ellzey of Texas son Dennis Mahoney (Rebekah) of Gainesville and daughter Patricia Krejci (Clayton) of NC. She is also survived by three grandchildren Kathryn (Mike) Kimberly (Robby) and Jesse (Gwen) as well as 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents Elizabeth was predeceased by her beloved husband William Mahoney; brother Cecil Ellzey III; son William Mahoney Jr.; daughters Marian Mahoney and Billie Jo Mahoney; and granddaughter Deborah McNair.
