A memorial service for Elizabeth ""Betty"" J. Dobbie age 97 who passed away Sat. Jan. 23 2010 will be held on Sat. Jan. 30 2010 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. Betty was born on March 2 1912 to Thomas and Winifred Johnson in Chattanooga TN. She was a courageous and adventurous woman who earned degrees from the Girls Preparatory School and Tulane University. She worked for the State Department in northern Africa and later transferred to Scotland. She loved to travel and drove through Italy France Spain Portugal on her way to England and then to Scotland. There she met and married her husband William ""Bill"" Dobbie. They lived outside London for most of their life in England. Betty was active with the Red Cross and supported our troops during World War II. Bill had been in the Royal Navy and he and Betty shared a love of sailing. They retired to the United States living in Merritt Island before moving to the Port Orange area. Betty and Bill enjoyed a life of traveling sailing and golfing. She is survived by her husband William Dobbie of Port Orange FL; her nephew Mack Thompson and wife of Boulder CO; and his two daughters Susie Russo of Boulder Co and Holly Rutter of Concho AZ. Her family would like to thank Fran Milano and the staff of ""Fran's Elderly Care"" for the wonderful care they provided for Betty and continue to show toward Bill.
