Elizabeth Elliott Leonard of Morristown, NY and Ormond Beach, Florida, died peacefully on February, 12, 2017 in Ormond Beach, surrounded by family and several old, and new, friends. She carried herself with grace, strength and love throughout her 93 years of life.

Betty was married to Judge John B. Leonard, who predeceased her. She is survived by her children, Mary Catherine Leonard and her husband Rick Valachovic, Patricia Thames and her husband Bill, John Leonard and his wife Mimi, Maureen Missert and her husband John, Jane Leonard and her husband Kevin Rahill, and Michael Leonard and his wife Staci. She leaves 10 grandchildren who always knew they could count on her support and loving guidanceBilly Thames and Beth Alford, Jack Leonard, John and Mike Missert, Patrick and Timothy Rahill, and Kyle, Kerry and Abby Leonard. Her three great grandchildrenChloe and Caleb Thames and Hendrix Alford, will always remember their "GG". Betty is also survived by her friend and sister in law, Eileen Bleibtrey, and six loving nieces and nephewsHoward, Mary Lynne, Mike, Tom, Conrad, and Sheila, and their families. Her sister, Mary E. Jennings, and her brothers, Michael and J. Conrad Elliott, predeceased her.

Betty defined herself first and foremost as a wife and mother, and so the many other roles she played often went unnoticed. Betty was a graduate of the Crane School of Music of SUNY Potsdam, where she served as President of her senior class, and led multiple student activities. She taught music at all grade levels, and, after she married, continued to share her love of music through community volunteeringdirecting choirs and glee clubs, serving as music director of the Remnant for many years, and rehearsing St John's choir until moving to Florida at the age of 91 years. Many local organizations benefited from Betty's time and talent- St. Mary's Cathedral and St. John the Evangelist Church, Claxton-Hepburn Hospital, every school her children attended, and years of brownie troops. She rarely missed a game, play, recital or other performance of her children and grandchildren, and could often be found in the stands watching games even after all her family members had graduated. Scores of people who grew up in Ogdensburg remember being warmed by her smile and welcomed in her home.

Relatives and friends are invited to say good bye to Betty during visiting hours at the Frary Funeral Home in Ogdensburg on February 16 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, and at a funeral Mass which will be celebrated at St. Mary's Cathedral in Ogdensburg at 1:00 pm on February 17.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to either St. John the Evangelist Church at 506 Gouverneur Street, Morristown, NY 13664 or Potsdam College Foundation-The Crane School of Music, 44 Pierrepont Avenue, Potsdam, NY 13676reflecting the two things most important to Betty, after her family: her faith and her music.
