ORMOND BEACH - Elizabeth (Betti) Wind 87 of Ormond Beach who was a retired teacher died September 23 2008 at the Ormond Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Wind served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII preparing pilots to fly as a LINK trainer. After the war she trained pilots for Trans World Airlines and during that period she met her husband to whom she would be married for 60 years. Mrs. Wind also taught in the Queens City School District for many years. She held a bachelor's degree in education from Westchester State Teacher's College in Pennsylvania. An avid bowler and tennis player Mrs. Wind was a USTA umpire and sat on of boards of directors for several bowling and tennis associations in New York Pennsylvania and Floridashe relocated from South Auburn Penn. to Ormond Beach in 1991. Most recently she was a member of the Women's Bowling Association and 500 Club. Mrs. Wind was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church. In Pennsylvania she wrote columns for Wyalusing and Tunkhannock newspapers including one entitled "Shooting the Breeze" in the Wyalusing Rocket. She combined her loves of bowling and writing when she moved to Florida winning numerous awards for her bowling newsletters. She also enjoyed writing clever lyrical poems in cards for friends and loved ones. Mrs. Wind was a talented painter and a prolific readershe especially enjoyed mystery novels. She will be remembered as a pleasant capable fair honest person who was good company. Born May 18 1921 in Westchester she was the daughter of the late Carrie Aichele and George Baldwin. She is survived by her devoted husband M. Michael (Mickey) Wind; one son Randall and his wife Leslie of Ormond Beach; two brothers George and William (and Mary Sue) Baldwin both of Ormond Beach; two sisters June Fisher of Ormond Beach and Claire McHugh of Salt Lake City Utah; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday Oct. 3 at the Lohman Funeral Home 733 West Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach.
