Elfrieda A. Coughlin
, 79, who passed away November 15, 2018 at Adventist Hospital, Ormond Beach, Florida was born May 1, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of John and Lucille (Serek) Burian and the sister of Debbie Burian, all of whom preceded her in death. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of over 60 years, Richard W. Coughlin of Ormond Beach, and the proud and loving mother of sons Richard William Coughlin (Lori), of Stroudsburg, Penn., John George Coughlin Of Ormond Beach, and daughter Mary Therese Coughlin of Chicago, Illinois Frieda is also survived by grandchildren David (Leann) Coughlin and Amanda (Kevin) Neilan; great grandchildren Gavin and Carley Coughlin and Jaxson and Connor Neilan; and her sisters Jacqueline (Kenneth) Bakos of Galveston, Texas; and Janet Kordosky of Chicago.
She was a graduate of Jones Commercial High School in Chicago and worked for many years as a Nursing Home Administrator and as a Special Education Instructional Assistant. Frieda had a wry sense of humor and loved exchanging jokes via email. She loved to cook, travel, and play cards. She and Richard celebrated their 60
th
Anniversary in May 2018 with a fabulous long-planned cruise to Europe. She was still talking about that wonderful trip six months later! Those of us who knew Frieda will remember her as a hard-working member of her church, her social organizations, and her community. In 2006, Richard and Frieda served as Commodore and First Lady of the Halifax River Yacht Club in Daytona Beach. She also belonged to St. Brendan's Catholic Church, St. Brendan's Women's Club, Women of the Moose #1019, a weekly Tuesday bridge group, and the Yacht Club Expatriots group. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 29th between the hours 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm with a scripture Wake service at 4:30 pm. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, November 30th at 11:00 am at St. Brendan Catholic Church, Ormond Beach.
